Change is Good?

Posted in people by Thad on April 8th, 2008

I have many reasons for changing blogs and purchasing a domain.

First off, I’d like to say that Blogger/Google was very unhelpful in helping me locate a spammer who was making death threats towards me on mine and others’ blogs (as well as harassing family members and high school friends). “I’m going to kill you Thad!!” was defended as “free speech”. I had to find out on my own how to install a new comment moderation system, and call the FBI to find out if this should be taken seriously or not. In the end, it turned out it was just some random horrible person (in Europe) trying to scam money (see here for an explanation). Remember, I had to do all of this on my own, without help from Google. That is just awful customer service, plain and simple. While WordPress is going to take a bit of getting used to, they have already replied to a few inquiries I’ve had (and not just a robotic auto-reply either), so I am optimistic.

Second, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve been posting things that aren’t exactly related to animation. While my love for certain cartoons know no bounds, it gets tiring just talking about them all the time when I have other interests. Being an election year, my thoughts are most certainly going to be elsewhere. There will still be enough material for cartoon geeks to enjoy though.

Thirdly, I’d just like to be able to create permanent web pages, and not just blog posts. I also was able to import all of my old blogger posts (and most of the comments!). Google does not offer anything like that. So there.

I thought this image taken from a Marty Taras scene in Huey’s Ducky Daddy (1953) would be appropriate. Mrs. Duck seems a little bit too cheerful while changing that behemoth’s diaper, wouldn’t you say so?

    Tantric blog, as usual, Thad.

There’s been some guy making phone calls locally doing the same hit-man scam. Sorry to hear a jerk was victimising you.

The web page is a great idea.

I’ll keep popping back periodically to see what stuff you’ve got, Thad. But I come for the fine and interesting animation discussions and information; I’m not particularly interested in another blog with editorials/rants about anything and everything.

Good luck…and let’s keep the “high quality” posts.

Do what you have to do— I’m sorry there are idiots out there that seem to exist only to fuck up someone else’s good thing. I’ve found your blog to be consistently entertaining from the day you started it, and I’d hate to see you “retire” due to the behavior of a handful of morons.

Speaking strickly for myself, I think your rants/ points of view are just fine. I wish people would get comfortable with the concept that we don’t have to agree on everything.

This was…um…unexpected, but I too welcome the idea of having your own domain and webpage. It’s still a very well-written and thought-provoking blog, even with all of this change.

Huey’s mommy is always cheerful. :)

I hope your new domain turns out for the best, and yeah, there are a lot of idiots out there you gotta look out for.

And concerning the Election, here’s to the best candidate. ;)

I know what you feel. That’s happen to me some wise-guys who tried to kill me. Peoples acts like that have no fucking lies. Hope you could enjoy this new location.

And it’s good to talk other things than cartoons. It can be boring with times.

Change is Good… except when it’s bad.

This election year is going to be saomething else, and I think 3/4’s of American’s minds are going to be on it. It’ll be interesting to hear your commentaries, Thad.

Online stalkers seem to be a common problem for web blogs, and I’ve noticed a lot of others in recent years have gone to Word Press because Google seems to leave blogger with no other option but to choke off comments to only those people with a blogger account in order to have any security.

Mama Huey was always maniacally cheerful in sort of a 1950s-early 60s TV sitcom mom sort of way. Too bad Famous didn’t do more with Huey’s dad, since that had the potential to be in the Papa Bear-Junior vein (and Jones had stopped making those cartoons by 1952 anyway).

    Hey Thad,

It’s good to see you made the switch!

I’m a web designer who specializes in WordPress, so if you need any help let me know. The “holy trio” of spam blocking plugins is Askimet, Spam Karma, and Bad Behavior, with those three installed, you won’t get much.

Also, if you’d like a quick custom made theme let me know and I’d be glad to help you out for free since I’ve enjoyed your blog!

    Thanks,
    Tommy Day
